Veneers

Veneers are custom-made covers that are used to hide any deformity in the exterior surface of the front teeth. They are thin and tooth-coloured, and are placed on a front tooth to enhance its size, shape, colour or length.

When are Veneers needed?
Veeners are placed when:
  • Your front teeth are irregular or uneven
  • Your front teeth are broken or chipped
  • Your front teeth are worn down
  • Your front teeth are discoloured
  • Your front teeth are misplaced and have gaps in between

Types of Veneers
Depending on the materials used to make them, there are two types of veneers:

1.Composite Resin Veneers: Composite resin veneers are highly aesthetic and are prepared inside the mouth, and therefore, you need to make only one visit to the dentist. They are cost and time effective but are less durable.
Composite resin veneers can correct a diverse range of aesthetic flaws, including:
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Misshapen or worn teeth
  • Gaps in your smile
  • Severe discoloration
  • Slightly crooked teeth
Advantages of Composite Resin Veneers
  • Composite Resin Veneers can be completed in one office visit.
  • Highly aesthetic.
  • Composite Resin Veneers are less expensive compared to Porcelain Veneers.
  • These are fast and easy to repair if it happen to chip or come off.
  • Touch-up required after 2 years, for a session of half an hour.
  • Resurfacing required after 5 years.

2. Porcelain Veneers: Porcelain veneers are prepared in dental laboratories, and are fitted inside the mouth. Therefore, you need to make three visits to the dentist. They are more expensive than composite resin veneers, but are more durable.
Advantages of Porcelain Veneers
  • Natural looking tooth appearance. They mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth and characteristics of tooth enamel well. They can be made very thin and translucent.
  • Very durable material thus giving long lasting solution
  • The colour of the porcelain veneer can be made to match your natural teeth.
  • Quick results and instant improvements in your smile
  • Porcelain veneers can improve shape, colour and position (if minor) all at once. Therefore if you have a range of cosmetic flaws such as spaces, discolouration, staining, chipped or fractured teeth, these can all be dealt with at the same time.
  • Porcelain veneers require the removal of less tooth structure than a full crown.
  • Porcelain veneers may be used in combination with treatments such as crowns, bridges, dental implants, orthodontics, teeth whitening, even tooth bonding to achieve a smile makeover.
  • The porcelain of a veneer will blend exactly with the porcelain of crowns, implants and bridges if they are made at the same time to give a perfectly uniform colour to your teeth.
  • Porcelain resists the classic stains of coffee, tea, smoking and soft drinks very well and can look as good as the day they were put in for years to come. Gums also respond well to porcelain margins making them well tolerated and easy to keep clean.
  • Porcelain veneers can help strengthen fractured teeth and restore them to normal function.
  • Nothing is needed other than daily brushing and flossing for maintaining Porcelain veneers.
  • The shape, colour and size of the veneers can be chosen within the limits of your mouth to give you the personal smile that you have always wanted.
  • Porcelain Veneers is difficult to repair if it is chipped.
